Content Name: Going with the Flow
Description: A different approach was needed to design the valves and automation systems for a high-level waste treatment plant at the Hanford site in the USA. By Mark Shaw. Reprinted from NEI Magazine.com, July 2009.
Content Name: Variable Medium Speed Pumps Combine Superior Performance With Reduced Life Cycle Cost
Description: The MSP medium speed pump is a vertical inline single stage pump. The pump is especially designed for high heads at low flows and is rigidly coupled to a high-speed motor driven by a frequency converter. This very compact unit can replace multistage pumps or high-speed integral gear pumps. The frequency drive allows the pump to operate at variable speeds to meet different system characteristics. In many cases the flow control valve can be eliminated and a significant amount of energy saved, which results in a short payback time.

Content Name: Theoretical analysis of inertially irrotational and solenoidal flow in two-dimensional radial-flow pump and turbine impellers with equiangular blades
Description: Using the theory of functions of a complex variable, in particular the method of conformal mapping, the irrotational and solenoidal flow in two-dimensional radialflow pump and turbine impellers fitted with equiangular blades is analysed. Solutions are used to derive analytical expressions for a number of parameters which are important for practical design of radial turbomachinery, and which reflect the two-dimensional nature of the flow field. Content Name: On the Asymptotic Solution of the Poisson Equation, Describing the Two-Dimensional Incompressible Inviscid Flow in a Rotating Centrifugal Impeller
Description: A calculation of the flow of an incompressible inviscid fluid in a rotating centrifugal impeller is presented. This calculation is based on an asymptotic solution of the Poisson equation in a coordinate system related to logarithmic spiral blades. It consists of the construction of the zero'th order approximation valid in a region well away from the blade tips. By F.C. Visser. Reprinted from ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 21 April 1999.
