Flowserve announces technology breakthrough with positioner for wireless control of valves

DALLAS, JULY 20, 2015 — Flowserve Corporation (NYSE: FLS), a leading provider of flow control products and services for the global infrastructure markets, today announced the introduction of a positioner which pioneers modulating control and monitoring of valves via wireless communication.

The new PMV D3 wireless positioner represents a breakthrough in communications technology which improves operational efficiency by allowing communication to, and monitoring of, process control / sensor equipment - wherever they are sited. This increases the scope of operational awareness in the control room and on the plant. Further, this industry-leading technology reduces the installation and maintenance cost of extensive and expensive wiring and cabinets, while eliminating issues due to damaged/ageing wires and corroding connectors.

In cooperation with Yokogawa Electric Corporation, Flowserve PMV has developed wireless communication for its D3 positioner (ISA100 WirelessTM standard). It has so far achieved compliance with US, Canadian and Japanese radio regulations (FCC, IC and Japan Radio Law / UL) while approval in other regions is in progress. The communication uses safety features such as dual backbone routers to provide redundant radio paths and additionally incorporates safety features such as user configurable behavior at loss of signal or power from the plant.

Successful live demonstrations of a wireless fluid level control system integrated in a Yokogawa wireless environment have already been shown to a number of customers and reactions have been very positive.
