Description: Gulf Coast hurricanes, severe storms and a surge in rainfall have increased the flood risk for the city of Dallas’ business and citizens. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers assessed the city’s aging flood management facilities — some of which were built in the 1930s — and recommended upgrading its existing pump stations with more reliable, higher-capacity pumps. Flowserve CVP concrete volute pumps offered the city a reliable, efficient and cost-effective solution to upgrade its aging infrastructure. This project marks the first time concrete volute pumps were used for flood management in the U.S.

Description: At a field operated by a Middle Eastern natural gas and petroleum company, API 602 gate valves in drain and gas blowdown lines experienced frequent failures. Gate valves are a well-established technology and appropriate for a broad range of industrial applications, including high temperatures and pressures, corrosive media along with lethal, toxic and sub-zero fluids. However, after some period of operation in harsh field conditions, the valves could not close properly because debris and sand from the wells routinely would settle in the wedge of the gate valves. The field operator’s solution: purchase and stock replacement valves and frequently send maintenance teams to shut down operations to swap out the valves.

Description: Rotary piston blowers with traditional packing were creating disproportionately high maintenance costs for a German refinery and also posed environmental concerns. Retrofitting the blowers with Flowserve Cirpac LO seals dramatically increased their continuous runtime and slashed maintenance costs while eliminating the risk of gas leakage. The new seals have operated for more than a decade with negligible wear.

Description: A hydrogen recycle compressor was impacting the availability, efficiency and profits of the mild hydrocracker unit of a Spanish refinery. The high cost of OEM upgrades made the refinery reluctant to retrofit the compressor. Flowserve engineered a more cost-effective retrofit than the solution proposed by the OEM, upgrading the compressor to a dry gas sealing system that required no modifications to the existing equipment. As a result, both the refinery’s initial investment and its ongoing operating costs were reduced.
