Flowserve Educational Service's instructional staff consists of some of the most respected subject matter experts in the flow control industry, with a combined field experience of over 300 years in all aspects of flow-control in every corner of the industry from water treatment to aerospace.

Flowserve's Educational Services Group (ESG) has an exceptional instructional staff that is one of the most respected in the flow-control industry. Together, ESG's instructors represent over 300 years of field experience in all aspects of the industry from water treatment to aerospace.

In addition to writing the courses that they teach to include hands-on experiments, Flowserve trainers have experienced many specific engineering, operator, or mechanical problems that students may have, and in most cases are able to recreate the scenario in our Power Labs and solve the problem. Our instructors have taught programs in many countries around the world, always with the same exceptional results.

Joining Flowserve's Educational Services Group in January, 2007, Dave brings more than 15 years of leadership in directing training, service, and operations within conventional and matrix organizations. During his career, he has successfully launched and managed global technical training organizations for several major companies. Serving as a training expert in these organizations, he is highly experienced in the development of instructors, the design and presentation of instructor training courses based on adult learning theory, and implementation of the latest best practices in the field of technical training. David holds a master of business administration from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor of education in training development and design from Southern Illinois University.

Gary Collier
Gary Collier
Specializes in mechanical seals

Gary Collier joined Flowserve (BW/IP, Seal Division) at age 19 as part of the cooperative education program at Texas A&M University. While completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering, Gary worked in applications engineering at the Houston Quick Response Center. After graduation, he assumed the position of Sales Engineer and his customers included refineries, chemical plants, and power generation facilities. He was responsible for sales, field service, and technical support at these plant sites in various parts of Texas as well as for providing technical consulting on several overseas projects.

During this time, Gary gained experience with all types of mechanically sealed equipment and was involved in numerous product development projects including prototyping, field trials, and design change initiatives. He also developed and implemented several reliability improvement/performance monitoring programs for his customers and participated on numerous alliance development and implementation teams.

Following the merger of Durco and BW/IP, Gary joined the Educational Services Group and assisted in the design and construction of the Learning Resource Center (LRC). As a Training Specialist, he developed product cross-training and other technical programs for Flowserve employees. In addition, he presented numerous programs on pumps, seals, and equipment reliability to Flowserve customers at plant sites across the country.

Gary returned to the field in 1999, working for an independent equipment distributor and providing field service for Flowserve Seals, Goulds Pumps and Sundyne high speed pumps and compressors. He recently rejoined Flowserve Educational Services and is using his 18 years of rotating equipment experience to produce new training material and learning experiences for Flowserve employees and customers.

Chuck Meeks
Chuck Meeks
Specializes in valves and actuators

Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in manual valves, automated control valves, actuators and controls, Chuck Meeks helps companies by training their technicians to increase valve operational efficiency and reliability while reducing valve operating and maintenance costs.. His unique breadth of experience in valve maintenance and operation has been gained through working for 28 years in valve assembly, repair, maintenance, automation, testing, training, start up assistance, diagnostics/troubleshooting and field/technical service in all of the process industries in 47 states and 18 countries.

Chuck spent 12 years in the US Army where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and held the position as Motor Sergeant with the responsibility of maintaining all motor vehicles (wheeled and track) in the units he was assigned to. Leaving the Army on a Friday in 1979 Chuck went to work for Valtek the following Monday where he spent the next 19 years prior to joining Flowserve's Educational Services Group at the Learning Resource Center In 1998.

With over 40 years of maintenance/technical experience, with the majority in the Flow Control industry in many different countries, regions, and situations, Chuck is well qualified as a Trainer, and enjoys sharing his knowledge.

Chuck has attended many training seminars and flow control related schools, and is certified as a Master Trainer by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). He is also a member of the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA).

Lou Hart
Lou Hart
Specializes in mechanical seals

Lou Hart joined Flowserve, (Borg Warner Mechanical Seals), as an Applications Engineer in 1981 after serving as General Maintenance Supervisor at Armour Dial in Montgomery, IL.

Lou received his BS from Purdue University in 1976, where he had participated in the Cooperative Education Program with United States Steel Corporation beginning in 1974. He continued working as a shift supervisor after graduation at US Steel, Gary Works. In 1978 he was employed as a Project Supervisor by Barnard and Burk Engineers and Constructors. He was responsible for overseeing building trade crafts in the execution of maintenance contracts and project work in the refining and petrochemical industries in Chicago, IL, and Northwest Indiana.

In 1982, Lou assumed the position of Sales Engineer for Borg Warner Mechanical Seals in the St. Louis, MO, area. His primary seal accounts were refineries and power plants. He was instrumental in the development of one of the first survey programs ever used for tracking seal performance in a major refinery. When the EPA's "Fugitive Emissions" requirements arrived in the Midwest in 1985, he was able to help his accounts comply while optimizing existing inventories and developing seal standardizations.

In 1988, Lou pursued an opportunity to be the Sales Manager of a pump distributor in the St. Louis area, and worked in pump distribution until rejoining BW/IP in 1995. He has participated in pump training by such companies as Ingersoll Rand, Goulds, Gorman-Rupp, and Viking Pump.

Lou returned to BW/IP International, Seal Division, in 1995 and served as a Senior Sales Engineer in the upper Midwest. After the formation of Flowserve in 1997, his territory included Iowa, Nebraska, and NW Illinois. Markets served were primarily Chemical, Power, and an OEM, (Viking Pump), which he developed into a major Flowserve Seal account.

In October 2006, he joined the Flowserve Educational Services Group as a Training Specialist where he plans on using his 30+ years in industry, sales and service to contribute to the development of new training material and learning experiences for Flowserve employees and customers.

Johnny Van der Linden
Johnny Van der Linden
Specializes in pumps

After serving in the South African Military as a Tactical Intelligence Instructor, Johnny started a career in the Engineering field at a steel manufacturer as an Apprentice Fitter in 1992. He qualified as a Mechanical Fitter in 1995 at the Metal and Engineering Trade School of South Africa with distinction and thereafter completed Mechanical Engineering studies at the Germiston Technical College in South Africa.

As a Field Service Engineer he spent the following years traveling the outskirts of South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa troubleshooting and repairing Air Compressors and Pneumatic systems. Johnny was involved in setting up a new branch where he was responsible for the service group and new equipment sales. During this time he took the opportunity to undertake various courses in Sales and Marketing Management, Leadership Orientation and Business Management at Potchefstroom University in South Africa.

In 1999 he joined Sulzer Pumps as a Sales and Service Engineer, responsible for refineries throughout South Africa and was later promoted to a Sales and Project Engineer dealing with new equipment sales in the Petrochemical, General Industry and Mining sectors.

In early 2004 Johnny joined Flowserve Pump Division as a Sales Engineer based in the United Arab Emirates. Johnny actively contributed in building the FPD Sales team in the Middle East to where it is today. In July 2005 he relocated to Doha, Qatar as End-user Sales Engineer where he was responsible for all FPD business in the State of Qatar. His customers included major refineries, onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities, chemical plants and power generation facilities. His responsibilities included new equipment sales, spare parts sales, equipment upgrades and technical support to all end-users, consultants and contractors located in the State of Qatar.

Johnny joined Flowserve Educational Services in November 2006 utilizing his vast international pump experience and more than 12 years service as a part-time Intelligence Officer and Instructor in the South African Army's Reserve Force. Johnny is focused to producing new training material and learning experiences for Flowserve employees and customers.
