Flowserve Unveils Next-Generation Intelligent Control System to Improve Plant Reliability, Increase Uptime

Valtek® StarPac® 3 Is Low-Cost Solution to Increase Profitability

DALLAS, June 11, 2009 – Flowserve Corporation (NYSE: FLS), a leading provider of flow control products and services for the global infrastructure markets, today announced the release of the StarPac 3, the third-generation Valtek® StarPac® smart control valve. The StarPac 3 is a complete valve-process controller that can help customers save money by improving system performance at a lower cost than conventional systems.

The StarPac 3 is the only fully integrated smart control valve on the market, providing full proportional integral derivative (PID) control. It is a complete process control system featuring built-in process sensors, microprocessor-based control, and a high-accuracy digital positioner.

The StarPac 3 builds on two decades of StarPac technology. Upgraded features include an explosion-proof housing, USB and infrared interface, updated electronics, stainless-steel options and enhanced positioner functions.

“The launch of the new StarPac 3 smart control valve is just one way that Flowserve continues to help customers find cost-effective ways to improve profitability,” said Stephan Giesen, Digital Products Marketing Manager, Flowserve Flow Control Division. “The advancements in this third-generation product can potentially save facilities millions of dollars a year by providing a window into critical processes, allowing customers to reduce operating costs through integrated control and unparalleled diagnostic capabilities.”

The StarPac 3 uses minimal system lags for tighter control, allowing the PID controller to react faster to a process upset than conventional loops to get back on setpoint. Time spent away from the setpoint reduces efficiency and increases costs. Tighter control enables plants to produce high-quality products with minimal waste to maximize profitability.

The StarPac 3 offers repeatability, accuracy and quick-system response time with a small footprint and simple installation. It can operate as a stand-alone control valve or be integrated into a system, and is available for a variety of applications, including: oil and gas, chemical, aerospace, steel manufacturing, pharmaceutical, paper processing, mining, industrial gases and power generation. The StarPac 3 is an economical way to monitor and control under-instrumented processes without requiring additional line taps.

Unique to the market, StarPac intelligent control systems give users an integrated view of the process at a single point and can improve plant operation at a lower installed cost than conventional control systems.
